In the heart of
the Valdobbiadene hills
Drusian is located in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Today the winery is led by the charismatic personality of Francesco Drusian, founder and winemaker. He continues to follow his family tradition, which dates back to the 1890’s. Technology has evolved over the years, but the love for this land and the passion for this job is still the same. It is hard to grow our vineyards on the steep slopes of these hills, but it is totally worth it.
Our reward is the golden sparkling wine that shines in our glasses.
What makes us different?
We are farmers, first of all.
We follow carefully every step of production, starting from the vine. To produce good wine, we need healthy grapes. In our vineyards, we put a lot of effort to grow vigorous vines, according to green practices. This is the only path we pursue to get good grapes for a genuine wine.
Close your eyes and taste the pure expression of Glera
We harvest our grapes exclusively by hand. That helps preserve the integrity of the fruit. Grapes are gently pressed to get a high-quality must. We use only native yeasts. All these choices contribute to delivering our consumer an authentic wine, which is the pure expression of the fine and elegant aromas of the Glera grapes.
On the steep slopes of our hills, every operation is performed manually. On average, it requires yearly up to 600-800 hours of work per hectare, compared with about 95 hours on the level ground.
The Value of Time
After the grapes are gently pressed, the base wine undergoes secondary fermentation in stainless steel tanks, according to the Martinotti Charmat method. This method is considered the most suitable to process grapes of a fine and delicate fragrance like Glera. According to the rules of Prosecco Superiore production, the prise de mousse should last at least for 30 days. This is not enough for us. It is necessary to extend the length of this delicate phase, sometimes up to 120 days, to have the fine and persistent perlage that is unique signature of the Drusian sparkling wines.
Tradition and Innovation
Tradition values give us direction, while innovation provides us the tools to implement them. Focus choices, fine processing techniques, and state-of-the-art equipment help deliver authentic wines. For instance, bottling occurs without oxygen at our facility. Thanks to this expedient, our wines are added just a very little sulphur dioxide, that means healthier products for our consumers.
A Sustainable Project
Francesco Drusian has been committed to environmental sustainability for a long time. In our vineyards, we adopt green practices to fight insects and we use organic fertilizers. Furthermore, we manage water resources consciously. We invest in renewable energy resources that make our commitment to sustainable development even more rigorous.
